On the territory of the Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport, employees of the Rosselkhoznadzor seized a small amount of suspicious mango from a foreign citizen.
As a result of a laboratory examination, it turned out that the fruit was affected by the larvae of a dangerous agricultural pest.
We are talking about a Vietnamese citizen who flew into the Russian capital with hand luggage. Among the personal belongings of the Vietnamese, as part of the phytosanitary inspection of hand luggage at the arrivals, dangerous fruits were found. Such information was shared with the public by the press service of the Main Directorate of Rosselkhoznadzor in the Moscow Region.
The detention of the "saboteur" occurred on the territory of the passenger terminal of the airport. Mango fruits were immediately sent to the laboratory, where leading experts recognized the presence of oriental fruit fly larvae on the fruit. The viability of the larvae was rated as high.
It is no secret that the larvae of this fly can cause irreparable damage to more than two hundred species of agricultural and medicinal plants.
Employees of the Plant Quarantine Center of the Russian Federation, who managed to identify a dangerous pest, banned the import of mangoes into the country and transferred the seized fruit cargo to a special site for the destruction of quarantine objects.
