In Ukraine, only the company SESVanderHave is engaged in the cultivation and production (processing) of seeds of sugar beet Belgian breeding. She currently plans to enter the global market.
In terms of quality indicators, the manufactured products are not inferior to foreign samples grown in Europe, and for some of them they have the best indicators.
“We grow seeds in the Odessa region in 4 districts that are located at the same latitude as seed crops in Europe (41 latitudes). However, here we have a number of advantages and more solar insolation, so during the harvest we have weather without rain, in contrast to European seed growers.
As a result, dry seeds are obtained that do not require additional treatments, ”said Sergey Gorobets, Commercial Director of the company.
Since 2013, Sesvanderhave-Ukraine has been and is the main initiator of Ukraine joining the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
As a result of hard work, on January 31, 2018, Ukraine received permission to fully participate in the international trade in sugar and fodder beet seeds. Now the procedure requires legislative approval in the Verkhovna Rada on the proposal of the President.
“Only as a member of this organization can you send seeds for export. European experts saw what kind of growing conditions we have here, what quality of seeds we get. The OECD accepted us last year, but we need to legislatively approve this issue in the Verkhovna Rada.
Approximately after 3-4 months, we hope the issue will be resolved and we will be able to send seeds for export. In addition, this event will allow to move part of the seed production farms from Europe to Ukraine.
According to the conclusion of European experts, the quality of the seed material here in Ukraine is much better than in France and Italy, ”said the commercial director of Sesvanderhave-Ukraine LLC.
