The Czech Minister of Agriculture called on the European Commission to conduct an inspection of the quality of Polish meat for export for the presence of Salmonella bacteria.
The Czech official intends to meet and discuss with the European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety the quality problems of all Polish meat and the issue of pan-European veterinary control.
According to the representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture of the country, the extraordinary measures introduced by the Czech Republic in relation to Polish meat will not be canceled until an appropriate pan-European check is carried out or Poland shows convincing evidence that the process of slaughtering livestock and meat processing complies with applicable law and is under proper control. It should be recalled that the “meat” scandal arose after showing on one of the Polish TV channels a video of how sick cows are pulled to the slaughter on a slaughterhouse in a slaughterhouse in the city of Ostrow - Mazowiecka, shot by a hidden camera.
The Polish authorities recognized that the meat of sick animals was exported to a number of European countries. A further investigation showed that a certain amount of meat from sick animals was even sold through a retail network to customers.
In the Czech Republic, about three centners of meat with suspected salmonella entered the shops of several cities and restaurants.
After that, the Czech Republic tightened the inspection of meat imported from Poland and, according to a statement by Czech officials, new batches of affected Polish meat were discovered.
