Poland's chief veterinarian calls for proper biosafety principles when picking mushrooms in areas where African swine fever is present. People in contact with pigs should not be involved in mushroom picking.
“In connection with the ongoing harvesting season of forest fruits and the beginning of the period of intensive harvesting of mushrooms, the chief veterinarian calls for appropriate biological safety principles when picking mushrooms in areas created in connection with the occurrence of African swine fever.
This refers to the conservation zone (yellow zone), the restricted area (red zone) and the danger zone (blue zone), ”the report said.
Mushroom picking in areas where ASF virus is present should not be carried out by persons who have any contact with pigs due to the possibility of accidental inadvertent transmission of ASF virus to livestock.
The minimum period before contact with pigs should be 72 hours. In addition, it is important to remember the need to completely change clothes and shoes before the processing procedure associated with the processing of pigs, as well as use hygiene and disinfection.
“If you encounter the body of a dead boar, do not approach it and do not touch it, and the fact of its discovery should be notified to the relevant veterinary inspection, veterinarian, forester, hunter, local police or municipal security service,” the Veterinary Inspection of Poland reports.
