In the country's markets, there is a decrease in the supply of potatoes, which is associated with an increase in its value at the end of March.
This has expanded imports, in particular from Belarus. Imported potatoes cost even less than local ones - on average 1 UAH / kg, Info-Shuvar experts report. It is almost twice as high as at the same date in 2017.
Now Ukrainian producers sell potatoes at a price of 7-8 UAH / kg, whereas last year at the same time it cost 4-4.2 UAH / kg. The increase in prices and the minimal supply of locally grown potatoes attracted the attention of importing companies. In past years, Ukraine bought potatoes from EU countries, but this year, European prices for the product are three times higher than local prices due to crop failures. Therefore, importers opened the import of potatoes from Belarus. The product of Belarusian farmers can be bought at a price of 7-7.5 UAH / kg.
In addition to Belarusian potatoes, in the Ukrainian market you can find early potatoes from Egypt and seed potatoes produced in the Netherlands. Earlier it was reported that the population of Ukraine is gradually reducing potato consumption. Instead, couscous, bulgur and sweet potato appear in the diet of Ukrainians.
