Prices for locally grown apples in 2018 have risen slightly, according to EastFruit experts. Especially often, buyers were interested in high quality fruits, which affected their value.
A week ago, apples in Ukraine were mainly sold at a price of 4-8 UAH / kg. The specific cost of fruits depended on their presentation, quality, variety and size of the bulk. As of March 22 this year, quality apples could be purchased no cheaper than for 5-10 UAH / kg.
Due to increased demand, traders were able to increase the value of the most popular varieties of apples, such as Fuji, Granny Smith, Idared and Renet Simirenko. But even after a rise in price, locally grown apples in Ukraine now cost 1.5 times cheaper than they did in the last days of March 2018. So far, farmers do not risk even higher prices for their products so as not to slow down their sales.
It was previously reported that in 2019, scab threatens Ukrainian apple and pear trees, which spread in 2018 to all regions of the country. It can spoil the apple crop and monilial burn of flowers and shoots. To protect the garden from diseases, experts advise to destroy affected branches in time, remove fallen leaves and fruits, remove mummified apples from trees and use plant protection products.
