This year, Bavarian farmers plant about 15 thousand. This can make seeds scarce.
This year, farmers in Bavaria are creating even better flowering areas. ha of perennial flowering areas.
In Bavaria, there are about 93 thousand farms.
According to the ministry, due to the high demand in some places, regional seeds are becoming scarce. While seeds are likely to be sufficient for annual flowering mixtures, only a fraction of the seeds of the required quality is available on the market for perennial flowering mixtures.
Therefore, the Minister of Agriculture, Michaela Kaniber, asked all market participants to develop pragmatic solutions: “All farmers who want to create environmentally valuable five-year-old quality flower mixtures as part of a cultural landscape program should also be able to join this support program in 2020.”.
In collaboration with the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture and users of the Bavarian Quality Flower Blends, the ministry has now managed to develop two new multi-year special blends.
According to Kaniber, the commitment of farmers shows how responsibly they will provide more biodiversity. According to the agrarian department, flowering meadows provide not only nectar and pollen to insects, but also a cover of food for wild animals. The focus in flower mixtures is on species that play an important role in the ecological cycle and originate from the region.
