A year ago, on the expanses of the village of Arkhonskaya, located in North Ossetia, local farmers planted sixty-five hectares of asparagus of various kinds.
This is a new experience for Ossetian farmers who today, at the end of May 2019, are harvesting their first asparagus crop. It is known that only five varieties of asparagus were grown in the fields. The result was so successful that Ossetian farmers were literally stunned by the volumes of a generous harvest.
According to participants in the collection of Ossetian asparagus, they purchased seedlings from Dutch suppliers. Culture has taken root on the Archon earth perfectly. It is noteworthy that all sixty-five hectares were sown manually. And you also have to pick the crop by hand, because at the moment there is no such technology in the region that could carefully collect asparagus without damage.
Agrarians go to asparagus plantations early in the morning, lightly dig up the stems and, as during mushroom picking, slightly cut a leg with a knife. A few days later, a new stalk appears in place of the chopped asparagus.
The whole process pleases Ossetian farmers who relate to the collection of a new culture for them with almost childish curiosity.
It is important to add that when growing asparagus, Arkhon farmers did not use chemical fertilizers and fed crops only with natural additives.
